Madre de Dios promotes the sustainable use of the forest and protects biodiversity

The use of appropriate forest management techniques help forest conservation, ensuring that natural resources are being used in a sustainable way without compromising their capacity for regeneration and, therefore, their availability for next generations and other living beings.

By implementing sustainable practices, natural habitats are protected and biodiversity is also promoted, which is crucial for the stability of ecosystems and human well-being.

The use of appropriate forest management techniques help forest conservation, ensuring that natural resources are being used in a sustainable way without compromising their capacity for regeneration and, therefore, their availability for next generations and other living beings.

“In Madre de Dios, capital of biodiversity in Peru, the forest restoration is key to protect the biodiversity and mitigate climate change, guaranteeing the socioeconomic well-being of local communities and promote sustainable development that respects natural and intercultural resources”, mentioned Edith Condori from WWF.

In this context, during the months of May and June, for the first time in the region, in a collaborative effort between academia, the public sector and civil society offered a free cycle to strengthen technical capacities on the topics of forest management and ecological restoration.

“More than 61 people have satisfactorily completed the training process in improving forest management practices and ecological restoration. These programs contribute to the challenge of preventing ecosystem degradation, a threat to the region, through training in forest management and restoration projects, as known as strategies for the benefit of the Amazon and companies, and in a social way, they stand out for promoting gender equality”, explained Williams Arellano of SERFOR.

Also, the institutions in charge of deploying these efforts to generate ecosystem restoration mechanisms that allow to improve the living conditions of local populations were UNAMAD, SERFOR, OSINFOR, Cite Productivo, the Instituto Superior de Iberia and WWF Peru.
