WWF welcomes Peru’s Country Package and its ambitious plan to accelerate action on forests and climate

WWF applauds the launch of Peru’s Country Package under the Forests and Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP). The package includes concrete plans to drive implementation of the country’s climate and biodiversity commitments and puts Indigenous peoples and local communities at the center of these efforts.

The launch of Peru’s Country Package represents a significant milestone in the collective effort to safeguard the Amazon and accelerate climate action. By aligning national policies, territorial initiatives, and international cooperation, the package provides a clear roadmap for strengthening forest governance, reducing deforestation, and enhancing community-led conservation.

Kurt Holle, WWF’s Country Representative in Peru, said:

“Peru’s Country Package is about turning commitments into real change on the ground. It brings together government, Indigenous organizations, and partners to protect forests while creating opportunities for people who depend on them. It’s a chance to scale up solutions that work and ensure the Amazon remains a source of life for generations to come.

What stands out about this package is that it ensures synergies between nature and climate. This is a key element because success in delivering deforestation commitments requires elevating this issue to the top of the political agenda at COP30. We commend the FCLP and Peru for signaling strong determination to promoting land rights and sustainable development, promote an inclusive approach and strengthen governance.”

WWF congratulates the Government of Peru for its leadership and commitment in advancing this important milestone for forests, climate, and people.
