The Tabaconas Namballe National Sanctuary (SNTN), managed by the National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the State (SERNANP), is the only protected area in Peru that preserves the Andean paramos, the montane and cloud forests as ecosystems and that is home of threatened species, such as the Andean bear and the Mountain tapir, which have found refuge in this natural space. Through their conservation, they contribute to the provision of the benefits that these ecosystems offer: clean water, food, clean air, among others.

This magical sanctuary located in San Ignacio, Cajamarca, is protected and preserved by committed park rangers, who are responsible for monitoring the areas to avoid any threat and supporting organizations such as WWF in research activities, for example, by installing camera traps. On the other hand, families and their communities live in the buffer zones that surround these protected natural areas, and they carry out their activities in harmony with nature. All of them were affected by the consequences of COVID-19.
